the-walking-dead-season-7-negan-ezekiel-trailer

It is interesting how art imitates life. As I reflect on the new Season of The Walking Dead, it is apparent to me that as the story line has changed and we are discovering different communities with varied governing entities, there are definite parallels to the leadership changes that are happening in the U. S.

I have written more than a few times about how Anarchy is the new Utopia for Gen X and Boomers which explains the large viewing audience in these demographics. As these two generations have watched government continue to grab power and limit personal freedom, the anarchy of the dystopic world of the Dead has its appeal.

The danger of the walkers pales in comparison to the evil that men do when they organize and create a governing leadership. This has been shown time and time again throughout the tale of the The Dead. The Governor, Terminus and even the Hospital community where Beth died all were examples of how power corrupts and people are more dangerous than flesh eating zombies.

The only leader who seems to be almost immune from the corruption of power is Rick Grimes, the long suffering former Sheriff.  I would call him the Libertarian-the Gary Johnson- of The Walking Dead.  Although he ultimately becomes the main leader of Alexandria, his leadership is not about power over others.  He allows freedom of choice among his followers and asks for the input of others on his decision-making.  His rule is more of a min-archy.  Minimum of rules, maximum of freedom, limited government.

The fatal mistake Rick made was breaking into the Saviour’s compound as an attempt to take them down to protect the Hilltop community from the brutal hold they had over them.  He took on a battle that was not his and overestimated the power of his group.  This prideful decision may show the beginning of corruption from the power of his leadership.  Ultimately this decision lead to the death of two of his main followers Abraham and Glen and the beginning of the iron fisted rule of Negan over Alexandria.

America, on the other hand, seems to have chosen to be ruled by a leader not unlike Negan to replace their leader who is not unlike King Ezekial.

King Ezekial is the smooth talking benevolent dictator who rules The Kingdom with a velvet hammer (and a tiger by his side).  He tells Carol “People want a leader.”  I echo this thought in my book Blessed Are They That Hunger .  Although God wanted the Israelite people to be a Theocracy with God as the leader, they begged Him for a king.  King is a fitting title for the outgoing president of the United States who used his Executive orders to enact his will more like a monarch than a president. And like King Ezekial he is smooth talking and reminds his followers that everything he does is for their own good.  I am reminded of a quote by CS Lewis:

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Apparently, America was fed up with Obama and the Liberal agenda of the Democratic Party because his antecessor was not elected to office.

The President-elect has all the markings of Negan.  He may be the robber baron that CS Lewis refers to.  He makes no pretense to his iron rule with niceties and platitudes while enacting his will upon the people.  There is no duplicity about him.  His speech is brash and crude with no thought to lulling the masses into submission, but imposing his rule with an iron fist -no velvet to cushion the blow (or in the case of Negan, a barbed wire wrapped bat.)

Fortunately for America, there is another power to keep in check the power of the president, and that is the power of the other branches of government.  The Congress and Supreme Court stymied the will of the exiting President, and I trust will do the same with the President-elect.

So far no regime has successfully taken away our weapons the way the leaders in The Walking Dead did.  The president- elect promises to restore gun rights as he “Makes America Great Again”.

Time will tell if the promises of the election are fulfilled but as for me, my hope is in the Lord God.

Psalm 20:6-821st Century King James Version (KJ21)

6 Now I know that the Lord saveth His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

8 They are brought down and fallen; but we are risen and stand upright.

Hitler Allah

If there was ever any doubt as to whom President Obama has his allegiance to there is none now.  He had the audacity to downplay the barbarism and violence of The Islamic State of Islam or ISIS and other Islamic terrorists at the  National Day of Prayer  breakfast.

Our “one nation under God” that this country was founded on was not the God Allah, but the God Yaweh- the Judeo-Christian God.  At the prayer breakfast this God and his followers were defamed and ridiculed by comparing the Historical violence of Christianity to the present atrocities of the followers of Allah.

Obama has a very dim understanding of history, because both the Spanish Inquisition and the Crusades were in retaliation to the violence and invasion of the Islamic Jihad  during the 1400’s. To compare Christ who murdered no one to Mohammed who murdered innocents is also a misinterpretation of history .

The question might be what is the motivation behind Mr. Obama’s statements?

Is it to justify his lack of concerted effort  against ISIS?

Is it some kind of reprimand against Christians for disagreeing with his policies on marriage, and Obamacare’s forcing organizations to provide abortions for their employees? Steven Crowder  called it “evil” to make this kind of accusation against Christians.

This made me reflect on one of the most evil rulers in history- Adolph Hitler.  I found that in his speeches, he blamed past wars and the historical so called “evils” of the Jewish people as a justification for the Holocaust .

Was the President blaming Christians for the murders committed by ISIS and other Islamic terrorists?  Is he setting up the American people for an American Jihad against them?

The anti-discrimination laws are already putting Christians at risk of incarceration as I mentioned in my last blog.

The question is-will non-Christian Americans believe the rhetoric the way non-Jewish Germans did in 1941 and allow it to happen?

The Bible promises that “pride goeth before a fall”. The pride of this man far outweighs that of any other Commander in Chief in the history of the United States.  His executive orders have made him more of a monarch than a president. The  monarchs of England   who took the kind liberties that Obama has taken were soon out of power. How far will we let his abuses go as a nation?

Rand Paul told Sean Hannity in an interview  on July 1, 2014, “One of the reason’s they’re (ISIS – Islamic terrorists) stronger is that we have been allied with them in Syria. We’ve been funding Islamic rebels who kill Christians. We’d be funding Islamic rebels to fight against Iranian proxies in Syria, but now, on the other side of the world, we’d be siding with the Iranian Guard. If we actually put troops in there we’d be siding with the Iranian Guard.”

One month later, the terror of ISIS has escalated to horrific proportions. Men, women and children are being murdered –some are beheaded and the heads of murdered children are put on display  as a symbol of the victorious Jihad in Iraq.

Thousands are fleeing for their lives to the surrounding mountains and some are starving in the mountains due to lack of provisions.

As this tragedy unfolds, I am reminded of the prophesy of the Great Tribulation that was foretold by Christ:

Mark 13:14 (NIV)

14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’ standing where it does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

My Spirit grieves over these events.  I am sickened by the fact that America has culpability in them, as Senator Rand explained.  I am even more sickened by the fact that our involvement in the Iraqi Freedom military action from 2003 set the stage for the current regime in Iraq.  I am sickened by the loss of American lives for a senseless war over non-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction that were the reason for our involvement and the toppling of Saddam Hussein.

We left the country worse than before Iraqi Freedom.  Saddam Hussein in all his evil ways was not nearly the menace as is the group ISIS that has developed in the wake of the American involvement.  At least, Saddam Hussein left the Christians alone.

Evil has begotten evil as our government in its lust for power has created a greater evil than the one it sought to destroy.

I have not been too happy with much of President Obama’s activities during his reign, but was relieved when airstrikes were ordered on ISIS and aid delivered to the fleeing Christian refugees.

As a member of the Christian Church-the body of Christ- I pray for the suffering of my brothers and sisters and the souls of their enemies.

Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

When Robin Koerner wrote The USA Has a Monarchy. Let It Have a Glorious Revolution I assumed the title was mostly tongue in cheek.  I was aware of the abuse of power by the current executive office, but to say it had become a monarchy seemed a bit extreme.

Rand Paul called President Obama a King in his statement in January 2013.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Monday that he is opposed to potential executive action by President Barack Obama on the issue of gun violence, calling such a move monarchical.

“I’m against having a king,” Paul told CBN News. “I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress — that’s someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch.”

These abuses, however, have grown to the point that Ted Cruz has actually itemized them to 76 lawless acts in his  Legal Limit Report 4 .

So, you may ask- what is the response to these allegations from the White House?

At the recent White House Correspondents Dinner  jokes were made about the abuses as if it is fodder for laughs, referring to it as “his Imperial presidency.” To put more salt in the wound, the White House had the audacity to tweet the picture of the President sitting on a throne like that of the show Game of Thrones  to illustrate this in his speech.

Today, when I heard that the President spoke at a Walmart , I thought for a moment that maybe he was trying to show a semblance of humility and, perhaps, trying to relate to average Americans. To my disappointment, his speech was praising Walmart for their environmental efforts with no mention of the fact that Walmart’s carbon emissions increased by 2% last year not to mention their abuses towards women, minorities and LGBT employees. He spoke about his desire to push more environmental initiatives despite the fact that these have cost the U.S. millions of dollars with little to  no environmental improvements.

He showed once again the kind of elitist corporate cronyist he truly is-so far from the “man of the people” he portrayed himself to be during his campaign.

There is no remorse for the consequences suffered here in the U.S. and throughout the world by an iron fisted regime.  There is only disdain for those under the rule and as America asks for jobs and bread-they are laughed at and told “Let them eat cake”.  Let the revolution begin. Liberte egalite fraternite!
