America is in a state of moral decline and government corruption akin to that of the final years of the Roman Empire.

The satirist Juvenal (AD 100) described the Roman Empire’s ploy of subduing the masses with “Bread and circuses”. Give them enough government supplied food and entertain them with circuses and the government will do what it pleases.

Another circus has come to town in the form of a certain basketball team owner named Sterling – who ironically has been banned forever from the NBA by a man named Silver. The brouhaha is over racist remarks Mr. Sterling made which according to the pillar of morality-the NBA- is unacceptable.

This circus is all over the news morning, noon and night to distract America. While we are busy watching this comedy of errors about a former mistress and her audio recording, which she is using to avoid prosecution in a civil lawsuit brought about by Sterling’s wife blah, blah, blah, we are not informed about more relevant doings of the American Empire and its oligarchical rule.

Another military intervention is in place between NATO and Russia over the unsettled nation of Ukraine. NATO troops are amassing in the four Baltic States surrounding Ukraine while we watch the circus.

Meanwhile atrocities and destruction continue in Syria with no NATO presence.

Very little of this is found in the mainstream media which is obsessed with the “Sterling Circus” and it is only in foreign press and alternative news sources on the internet that we are informed of these events.

Instead of boycotting teams owned by racists maybe it is time to boycott the media and get them to cover the news and not the clowns.

Why do we learn about the state of America from Hollywood not Mainstream News Medias?

The latest example is based on a Comic book no less. Captain America -The Winter Soldier is a perfect depiction of what America has become. It is not, however, the America portrayed in the “News” but the reality of our experience.

A new study by Northwestern and Princeton Universities tells us what most informed citizens are already aware of-namely that America has lost its Republic. We are no longer a Nation “Of the People for the People and By the People”. We are a Nation where the will of the economic elitists rule. We are an oligarchy. To add more fuel to the fire of this kind of corruption, a recent NY Times article reports an event at the White House pandering to 100 young billionaires.

In CATWS there is an oligarchy that makes the decision for SHIELD ( a para government agency) and these decisions effect the world. An interesting mirror of reality.

The director of CATWS has said in interviews that the theme of the movie is a protest to our government’s illegal use of drone strikes throughout the world. Today we find out that as the world celebrated Easter and CATWS enjoyed its third weekend at the top of the box office sales, the U.S. was responsible for the deaths of at least 46 people in Yemen by drones.

CATWS also touched on how data gathering can be used to victimize innocent people by a malevolent government. This is the new reality for Americans with the breach of privacy thanks to the NSA.

Another example of how CATWS reflected today’s America is the war between SHIELD and its nemesis organization Hydra. It reminded me of the dichotomy of the Democrats and Republicans. They are two sides of a coin and it is hard to tell which party has done more damage to the American way.

The fight to return to freedom was the message and I hope that the audiences takes it to heart.

I hope we will say with Captain America,” The price of freedom is high… and it’s a price I’m willing to pay!”

I watched the moon turn to blood last night. It started out as a bright white full moon. A few hours later I saw a mist of clouds surround it that looked like a face. Later as the eclipse began I saw the earth shadow the moon and turn it to grey and then slowly as the hours passed to soft rose and then blood red.

As a student of the Bible, I knew about prophesies surrounding the blood moon. Seeing it was a spiritual experience. I understand the science behind it. Even the secular scientists agree that it is a rare occurrence. But one must at least acknowledge the likelihood that this rare phenomenon coincides with a Jewish Holy Day is significant. Add to that the fact that this rare astronomical event will be occurring three more times in the next two years and each one coinciding with another Jewish Holy Day. What are the odds that this would happen? One statistic put it at once in 273,000 years.

Last night’s blood moon occurred on Passover. This holiday commemorates the Exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt. The Biblical account is that in the last plague on the Egyptians, the angel of death would kill the first born of every family. The angel of death would “Passover” any home whose door was covered with the blood of a lamb.

As a Christian, I understand that this was a foretelling of the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who would redeem from death all who would have faith in Him.

There was no mention of the historical and Biblical significance of the blood moon in the news. God is sending a sign, yet the uninformed do not receive the sign and do not understand it.

2 Peter 3:3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

This is certainly true of today’s world.

When I saw the sign of the blood moon, it made me weep. I wept because for me, it was a sign that in a world that has forgotten God, He has not forgotten us. In a world that is full of chaos there is a God of order. There is a God who rules.

9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Will you heed the sign?

Come Lord Jesus.

A year ago I suffered losses. The large beautiful tree in my front yard was removed because its roots had taken over the lawn and were beginning to break up the sidewalk and potentially become a hazard to the house. I also experienced the end of certain relationships.

I shared in my blog, at that time about how the removal of the tree improved the rest of the plants in the yard by allowing more sunlight to reach them goo.gl/db7i4h -Reflections on Loss . I shared in another blog about how the heartbreaks created a softer heart to serve and love God and others http://goo.gl/oSq2TN-Love Ruins Everything.

In the course of the past year something amazing has happened. One of the rose bushes in the front yard has more than tripled in size. The rose bush has been in the yard for about five years. In previous years it had grown very slowly and produced maybe 4 or 5 blooms each Spring. With the large tree gone allowing the sun to shine on the bush, it has flourished. This year there are already about 20 blooms so far and the season has just begun. The blooms have a deeper blush pink color and are large and luscious.

As I marvel at this beautiful plant, I realize it is also an illustration of my life in the past year.

I was forced out of the comfort of my relationships. These relationships were distracting me from my purpose and hindering my personal development. With their removal, I was able to bask in the Light of the World, my Lord and Savior. Strengthened by His Power, I grew beyond the comfort of my previous bounds and experienced new adventures, new relationships and new opportunities to glorify Him through the gifts and talents He has given me.

And I hope, my heart, like the rose bush, grew more than three times its size like the heart of the Grinch in Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

This is the life of faith-a life of living dangerously for Christ.

I had the privilege of meeting Former Congressman Ron Paul and hearing him speak at Cal State East Bay in Hayward California today.(http://www.independent.org/multimedia/detail.asp?m=2530) I think I found my soul mate. Too bad that he is happily married and more than a generation older than me, but soul mate nonetheless.

He validated every thought I have had and spoken about in my blogs, and my interviews on Libertarian Counterpoint on the Access Sacramento TV Channel, regarding The U.S. government. Ron Paul is a prophet. If you doubt me google his youtube videos from 2002 (or earlier) and see how many of his predictions have come true.

Truth hurts, therefore prophets are not very popular. That is why the bipartisan Leviathan that is the U.S. government had no place for him. It is well know that the farce that is the Republican Convention was manipulated to eliminate him from the presidential race in 2012. As Dr. Paul is quoted saying “Truth is Treason in the Empire of lies.” The Empire had no room for his brand of truth.

America has had enough of the lies. Today’s speech felt like a revival meeting as thunderous applause followed each truth. I wanted to shout “Hallelujiah!” He spoke about how America has intervened in conflicts around the world that were none of our business. He echoed my thoughts that avoiding the Syrian conflict was due in part to American citizens saying “no”.

He talked about how America has manipulated the conflict in the Ukraine and has put us in a very dangerous position with Russia. He spoke about how other speakers of truth like Edward Snowden are treated like traitors while our own elected officials lie to us.

He spoke about the absurdity of political correctness. See my previous blog. We do not have to agree with everyone and just because you allow people the right to make mistakes doesn’t mean you agree with their behavior. He talked about the danger of the government trying to manage our vices and that prohibition proved that it is a disastrous idea.

He believes the “war on drugs” to be an unmitigated failure. He said that the government propagates the war on drugs by making money on it and then punishes the people it makes money off of.

He said that Obamacare was a big deception and that the government really wanted socialized medicine and should have just presented it as such.

He encouraged us to be like the Amish and Mennonites and “opt out” of the government programs. We have that right.

Our rights are God-given and inalienable and no government has the right to take them away from us according to Dr. Paul.

He believes that the monetary system is a hoax and we are headed to lose our financial power as other countries like China buy up gold and real assets to back up their economies.

The final message he had for those of us who were fortunate enough to meet him in a lovely catered private reception was,” Now that you are enlightened to freedom you need to do something about it. Spread the word. Educate others. Support liberty candidates. Become a liberty candidate.”

And as a final Amen I think of Jesus’ words: “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Thank you Ron Paul for having the courage to speak truth in the Empire of lies.

Political correctness has reached new heights of absurdity. With the rapidity of a guillotine there is a court of public opinion that is ruling with its reign of power. It is displacing CEOs divesting in Girl Scout cookies and hobby stores , and starving children.

In an American where 1.21 million babies are aborted, cohabiting among unmarried couples is at 48%, and the number of same sex couples has increased by 80% since 2000, there is a new morality. There is a morality that says that a corporation must take the correct stance on same-sex marriage and abortion in order to prosper. They are judged by what legislation they support and by what they invest their pension plans in.

The U.S. tax laws designate corporations as individuals. Apparently, they have been given a soul as well. This soul must be judged and if it is found wanting in its morality, it must be punished by the sanctions of the American people or the threat of sanction. We wage war against those who do not share our morals with the true God of America-the Almighty dollar.

Jesus had a term for this :

Matthew 23:23-25

New Living Translation (NLT)

23 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. 24 Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel!

In what some would deem truly justifiable sanctions against a corporation, it is worth considering the divestment of corporations in South Africa during Apartheid. Although a seemingly correct moral stance, those who suffered the most were not the corporate heads or government leaders but the innocent black workers of these corporations.

In judging a company based on its investments one is truly “straining a gnat” considering most stock portfolios consist of many corporations which are made up of even more smaller companies. To find fault with one product produced by one company and demonize it-truly takes political correctness to the absurd.

The fact that thousands of “Christians” protest gay marriage by refusing to financially support poor children is a true perversion of Christianity.

I think Jesus had words for you:

Matthew 23:27 New Living Translation (NLT) 27 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity.”

If proponents of gay marriage are to be true to their stand- they better get off the internet and turn in all their electronic devices, because nearly all of the Silicon Valley companies supported Prop 8-the California anti-gay marriage initiative at least in part.

When it comes to judging corporations I think that the only solution is to accept the reality that just like humans:

Romans 3:23

All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

At the beginning of the 4th Season of Walking Dead, I was appalled by the gratuitous violence and wrote a scathing blog called “Is Violence the New Porn?” about it, as well as other shows on the new Fall season of TV.

I may not have been the only one objecting because when I checked in on the shows later in the season the violence was definitely toned down. My self-imposed protest of these shows (by refusing to watch them) sort of fell be the wayside.

I found that the barrage of blood and guts were replaced by some actual story and character development that sucked me back in like an addict. In the case of The Walking Dead, I was not alone in my addiction.

Nielsen estimates that the regular-timeslot telecast of the zombie skein averaged 15.7 million total viewers — a 17% week-to-week gain (from 13.47 million) and 26% bigger than its year-ago season finale (12.42 million). Among all episodes to date, Sunday’s finale ranks third, behind only the season 4 premiere last fall (16.11 million) and the show’s mid-season return on Feb. 9 (15.76 million).

In adults 18-49, “The Walking Dead” averaged a 8.0 rating (10.2 million viewers in the age group), up 20% week-to-week and about 25% vs. last year. It more than tripled the top rating for any broadcast entertainment series on Sunday (ABC’s “Resurrection” did a 2.3 rating). http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/amcs-walking-dead-finale-draws-whopping-15-7-million-viewers-1201150367/

What is the fascination with the Zombie Apocalypse world of The Walking Dead? In my last blog I wrote about Dystopic Fiction and Young Adults.  If Dystopia is the new Utopia for Young Adults, then Anarchy is Nirvana for Adults. Young Adults resonate with a world controlled by a totalitarian regime that the heroic characters revolt against to reclaim their freedom. (i.e. The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner etc.)

The world of The Walking Dead is a view of humanity without rules without order-survival of the fittest-anarchy.  I’m reminded of that ode to anarchy by Alice Cooper:

“School’s Out”

Well we got no choice

All the girls and boys

Makin all that noise

‘Cause they found new toys

Well we can’t salute ya

Can’t find a flag

If that don’t suit ya

That’s a drag

School’s out for summer

School’s out forever

School’s been blown to pieces

No more pencils

No more books

No more teacher’s dirty looks

Well we got no class

And we got no principles

And we got no innocence

We can’t even think of a word that rhymes

School’s out for summer

School’s out forever

School’s been blown to pieces

No more pencils

No more books

No more teacher’s dirty looks

Out for summer

Out till fall

We might not go back at all

School’s out forever

School’s out for summer

School’s out with fever

School’s out completely

There are no rules, no laws in The Dead.  There is a different kind of freedom in this society of anarchy.  The only guidance for behavior is in the vestiges of human kindness and love that the characters have for each other.

The Walking Dead juxtaposes the almost utopic commune of the living in their barricaded prison, with the dangerous world of flesh eating zombies roaming beyond the barbed wire enclosure.  When the prison is evacuated, the former inhabitants are left to fend for themselves against the world of the undead, the wilds of nature and the packs of brutal criminal humans.

They have only their wits, their weapons and their will to keep fighting.  They search for “Terminus” at the end of the railroad tracks.  Could this be the utopia they are looking for?

Terminus appears to hide a dark secret (and a lot of grilled flesh).  The message is  that when humans organize and leaders emerge, freedom is lost. Anarchy is the only road to freedom and Nirvana. Will there ever be true freedom for the characters of The Walking Dead-or humankind in the world as we know it-for that matter?

Tune in next season to find out…….

As for mankind my hope is:

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. I Peter 1:24-25
